Misc — Sticker

The sticker is an ad busting sticker, meant to disrupt advertising posters and billboards in public space. Its design and colors deliberately match the look of the Gängeviertel, so its origin from the scene is immediately recognizable. Once stuck over a poster, the message instantly shifts, the advertising promise turns into a refusal. The three short words are meant to read like the viewer's own thought as they look at it, almost like a reflex against the urge to buy that the ad was trying to trigger in the first place. A sticker as a small act of protest against consumerism and the constant bombardment of advertising in public space.

14 Jahre Inklusiv — 24.–27.08.2023

The sticker for the 14th birthday shows the number 14 as an Ishihara test, the kind eye doctors use to check for color blindness. But the number is meant to be readable for everyone, since the Gängeviertel sees itself as a place where no one is excluded and everyone can take part.

8 Ball — 25.–27.08.2017

For eight years, the Gängeviertel has been occupied. The sticker made for the anniversary shows the classic black eight ball from billiards, only in the red that matches the Gängeviertel design, with the eight deliberately turned so it looks like an infinity symbol. In the game, the eight ball decides between victory and defeat. The struggle over the neighborhood between occupiers, the city, and Steg has been just as tough, even though the occupiers did have a genuine say in it. The turned symbol stands for the fact that this struggle never ends, but keeps turning year after year.

6 Jahre Alarm — 21.–23.08.2015

For six years, the Gängeviertel in Hamburg has been occupied. Instead of shutting themselves off and shouting "mine," artists and activists have exhibited art and sparked discourse about who the city belongs to. And loudly!
